Glenfinnan Viaduct: the Hogwarts Express in the Highlands
Glenfinnan Viaduct is the map’s defining railway landscape: it appears in Hogwarts Express journey sequences on the West Highland Line near Loch Shiel. The viaduct itself is the map pin. That is important because the Place should not be confused with the steam service or with the nearby monument visitor centre, each of which has a different identity from the filmed structure.
Its screen role is also distinct from Goathland Station. Glenfinnan represents the train travelling through a sweeping Highland setting, while Goathland represents Hogsmeade Station, the destination in the first film. Reading the two together makes the journey legible without suggesting that one railway location supplies every train scene.
The railway remains live, so the tracks are infrastructure rather than a visitor route. Visitors must use formal viewpoints and must not access the railway corridor. Current site information, viewing arrangements and local conditions should be checked with the linked Place before travel; no train timetable or service assumption is part of this guide.
