Pick the day from conditions, not a fixed peak date
Connecticut's foliage season broadly extends from late September into early November, according to DEEP. That statewide window does not establish today's colour at Kent Falls or Dennis Hill. Use the current foliage report, weather and park notices together before setting out.
A wet or windy day may change the value of a viewpoint more than a calendar label does. Keep an alternative of a shorter outing with a town stop. Avoid committing to a long drive solely because a static map marks a week as peak.
The two-stop core
Start at Kent Falls, taking time for the waterfall rather than immediately aiming for every viewpoint. The park lists an accessible path at the base; the stepped climb is a different undertaking. Choose between them according to the day's footing and your group.
Continue to West Cornwall for a change of scale around the covered bridge. Use lawful parking and designated pedestrian space; a photograph is not a reason to stop on a working road. Plan a meal break into this part of the day rather than treating every stop as a quick drive-by.
When Dennis Hill earns its place
Dennis Hill lies farther northeast in the mapped sequence and adds a broader landscape view. The park's road access is seasonal, so confirm the actual access situation before assuming you can drive to the top. If the outlook is poor or the afternoon is slipping away, finish after the two core stops.
Allow a full daylight outing for the three-stop version, with travel to and from your own starting point added separately. This is an editorial route concept, not a timed navigation service. Someone leaving New York City, Hartford or a nearby inn will have a different amount of time on the ground.
Keep the day simple and the budget visible
Kent Falls lists out-of-state vehicle parking at $10 on weekdays and $15 on weekends or holidays; check the park's current fee notice before visiting. A rental car's registration, not simply where the driver lives, is relevant to that distinction. Add fuel, road charges and food to your own estimate.
Save the official park pages and the three map pins before departure. Carry shoes suitable for wet leaves, keep within marked visitor areas and leave enough daylight for your chosen walk. Do not add another viewpoint merely to make the itinerary look more complete.
Places in this article

Kent Falls State Park
Kent Falls is the main walking stop. A visit near the base and a climb beside the falls are different plans; choose deliberately rather than promising the whole group an effortless trail.

West Cornwall Covered Bridge
West Cornwall Covered Bridge provides the middle stop and a different landscape subject. The bridge is part of local infrastructure, so photograph from permitted places and keep traffic moving.

Dennis Hill State Park
Dennis Hill is the optional extension. Include it when access, visibility and remaining time support the detour. It is not essential to make the shorter day worthwhile.

Is this a guaranteed late-October peak-colour route?
No. A seasonal guide cannot confirm live colour at individual stops. Check DEEP's current report and local conditions close to departure.
Can I use the plan without a car?
This article is a driving plan and has not verified a public-transport connection between all three stops. Do not use it as a car-free itinerary.
