Two squares with the same announced season
Checked 14 October 2026: organiser Taiko lists both markets for 28 November 2026–6 January 2027, with general hours of 10:00–22:00. This makes Prague a practical candidate for a late-December or early-January trip. The season does not guarantee identical stall activity or programmes every day. Check the organiser again for holiday exceptions before committing to a specific evening.
Start at the lower end of Wenceslas Square
Begin around the lower part of Wenceslas Square, where Prague City Tourism places its market huts. From there, use the city-centre streets towards Old Town Square; a route through the MĹŻstek area and Melantrichova is a sensible geographical outline to check on your map. This is an editorial walking suggestion, not turn-by-turn navigation. Allow extra room for pedestrians and crossings, and avoid treating the whole length of Wenceslas Square as the market itself.
Make Old Town Square the longer stop
Leave the larger part of your browsing time for Old Town Square and its historic setting. A two-to-three-hour afternoon-to-evening block is our flexible planning allowance for the pair, including pauses, not a measured walking time. If photography matters, arrive while there is still some daylight and stay as the lights become more visible. Do not stop in the middle of narrow pedestrian flows; move aside before checking the map or taking pictures.
January is possible, but keep the day realistic
For a 1–6 January visit, confirm your chosen day's programme and the opening hours of any museums or restaurants you add. A market season is not the opening calendar of the entire city. Keep Charles Bridge or another major sightseeing stop as an optional extension rather than a requirement of this walk. Use the linked Place pages for the two actual squares, and the Europe map only when deciding how Prague fits into a longer trip. Photographs are archival, not a preview of the 2026 layout.

Old Town Square is the main atmosphere stop in this suggested walk. Use its Czech name, StaromÄ›stskĂ© námÄ›stĂ, when matching signs and map results; keep a clear meeting point rather than relying on the whole square.

The Wenceslas Square market is associated with the lower part of the square. Start there if you want the walk to finish with a longer stay in Old Town Square; reverse the order if it suits your accommodation.
Are Prague's markets open in January 2027?
Taiko currently lists both featured squares until 6 January 2027. Verify holiday-day details before travel.
Do I need transport between these two markets?
They can be combined on a central walking route. Decide according to your mobility, weather and crowds; the guide's two-to-three-hour allowance includes visits and breaks, not just walking.
