What is confirmed for 2026
Strasbourg has announced a 27 November 2026 opening; this guide does not treat its closing date as verified. Colmar's main markets run from 23 November to 29 December 2026. Check the two official calendars together before booking.
Some organiser pages still contain material from earlier seasons. We have not carried old shuttle timetables or past closing dates into this plan. A trip after Christmas especially needs a venue-by-venue check rather than an assumption that the whole region shares one season.
The train is only one part of the transfer
SNCF lists direct Strasbourg–Colmar trains, with journeys around half an hour on some services. Search your actual date for the service, fare and return options. Add the walk from each station, time to reach the platform and a buffer for a busy arrival.
Do not convert a fast train time into a promise of market-to-market travel. Keep your onward connection away from the end of a tightly packed shopping session. Tickets and seat arrangements depend on the service you select.
If you have one day
Pick your evening city first. For an evening in Strasbourg, make Colmar the earlier visit, concentrating on the Dominicans and Ancienne Douane area, then return with time to spare. For an evening in Colmar, reverse the order and decide your return train before leaving Strasbourg.
Choose two market areas per city at most as a starting plan. Add lunch and the station walks before considering another stop. This is an editorial itinerary, not a booked excursion; reduce it if your first arrival is late or someone in the group needs a slower pace.
Why two nights can be the better purchase
Two nights give you two evenings without requiring a hotel move. Stay in Strasbourg if your wider trip starts there; choose Colmar if spending more unhurried time in its old town is your priority. Compare total accommodation and rail costs rather than presuming either city is cheaper.
A useful pattern is the first evening in your base, the next day in the other city, and a relaxed final morning. With luggage, check storage and check-in arrangements before committing. Extra villages can be a separate trip: they are not a free addition simply because they look close on a regional map.
Places in this article

Christkindelsmärik – Place Broglie
Place Broglie anchors the Strasbourg part of the plan. Use it as a specific meeting point instead of treating the whole historic centre as one stop.

Marché de Noël – Place de la Cathédrale
The cathedral market is the second Strasbourg anchor. Leave time for the surrounding streets and treat entry into the cathedral separately from the market visit.
Marché de Noël de la Place des Dominicains
The Dominicans market is one of the Colmar stops selected for a compact introduction. Start with this area rather than trying to cover every market immediately.

Marché de Noël de la Place de l'Ancienne Douane
Ancienne Douane provides a second Colmar focus. Decide here whether you have time for more browsing or should begin the walk back to the station.

Can I visit both without a car?
Yes, with a suitable train service and walks at both ends. Check your dates and departure times rather than assuming a fixed frequency.
Are both cities' 2026 closing dates confirmed here?
No. Colmar's main-market end date is confirmed; Strasbourg's end date is left unconfirmed in this guide. Recheck before planning a late-season visit.
